In a nutshell, VSMessenger
was designed to add 'Instant Messaging' functionality to Visual Studio. The purpose of this was two fold:
- To provide an end-to-end sample of 'real' Visual Studio extensibility that people could easily understand.
- To help showcase how Visual Studio Extensibility can be easily leveraged for improved community support. (Think, for example, of being able to provide a .contacts file for a CodePlex solution or project which can be loaded by the VSMessenger Plugin when a CodePlex project is loaded - it would allow developers working on the project an easy way to communicate in real time when needed).
